Hi, I am responding because I saw a peice on a freegan who appeared on the Oprah show today. Earning a six figure income, she was tired of working so much just to consume more. She lives a modest stress free life and gets fresh food the grocery store throws out - what a waste! Im glad she makes great use of what she finds and I would like to do the same because the food prices are beyond belief now ; ) I would like to know if there are any new freegans in the northern virgina area who would like to share experiences & favorite foraging areas. I use freecycle alot, mostly to reduce clutter here and the things I post are too nice for thrift shops, so I know someone out there would really use & appreciate it. I also donate & shop at thrift shops to support their work with the community and to find something I could really use at a bargain. Talk to you soon, Susan
I saw it on Oprah too! My husband and I have been dumpster or dump finding for years, mostly for household stuff. I'm a huge thrift store and yard sale nut also. The food thing peaked my interest but I didn't know how to get started.
I too saw it on Oprah. I was appalled to learn that grocery stores throw away $3 Billion worth of food every year. I live in NoVa and would be interested if someone were to organize a "dumpster field trip" in this area. Whole Foods and Panera Bread are great targets!
